حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي ابْنَةِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ قَالَ فَأَفْعَلُ مَاذَا قَالَتْ تَنْكِحُهَا قَالَ وَذَاكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ لَسْتُ لَكَ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي الْخَيْرِ أُخْتِي قَالَ إِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي قُلْتُ فَإِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ دُرَّةَ ابْنَةَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ ابْنَةُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَوَاللَّهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي لَمَا حَلَّتْ لِي إِنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَخِي مِنْ الرَّضَاعَةِ أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَأَبَاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَلَا أَخَوَاتِكُنَّ.
English Translation
Narrated to us by Ibn Numayr, from Hisham, from his father, from Zaynab bint Umm Salamah, from Umm Salamah, that Umm Habibah said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you be interested in my sister, the daughter of Abu Sufyan?" He said: "And do what?" She said: "Marry her." He said: "And would you like that?" She said: "Yes; I am not the only one enjoying you exclusively, and the one I would most like to share this good with is my sister." He said: "She is not lawful for me." I said: "It has reached me that you intend to propose to Durrah, the daughter of Abu Salamah." He said: "The daughter of Umm Salamah?" She said: "Yes." He said: "By Allah, even if she were not my stepdaughter under my guardianship, she would not be lawful for me; she is the daughter of my brother by breastfeeding - Thuwaybah nursed me and her father. So do not offer me your daughters or your sisters."
