English Translation
Abd al-Jabbar ibn Muhammad al-Khattabi told us, in the year two hundred and eight: Ubaydullah ibn Amr al-Raqqi told us, from Abd al-Karim - meaning al-Jazari - from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, from Hafsah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when the caller gave the call to prayer, would pray two rak'ahs and would then forbid himself food, and he would not call the adhan until dawn broke.
