حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ فَشُغِلَ عَنْهُمَا حَتَّى صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَكَعَهُمَا فِي بَيْتِي فَمَا تَرَكَهُمَا حَتَّى مَاتَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي قَيْسٍ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَدْ كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهُ ثُمَّ تَرَكْنَاهُ.
English Translation
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated from Mu'awiyah, meaning Ibn Salih, from Abdullah ibn Abi Qays, who said: I asked Aisha about the two rak'ahs after Asr, and she said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray two rak'ahs after Dhuhr, but was once occupied and missed them until he had prayed Asr; when he finished, he performed them in my house, and he never left them off until he died. Abdullah ibn Abi Qays said: I then asked Abu Hurayrah about it, and he said: We used to do it, then we left it off.
