English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from al-Hakam, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from Aisha: that she wanted to buy Barirah in order to free her, but her owners wanted to stipulate that her wala' (right of patronage) remain with them. She mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, "Buy her; the wala' belongs only to the one who frees." And he gave her the choice regarding her husband, and her husband was a free man. And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought some meat, and it was said, "This is what was given as charity to Barirah." He said, "It is charity for her, but a gift for us."
