حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَقِيلٍ يَعْنِي الثَّقَفِيَّ حَدَّثَنَا مُجَالِدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ حَدَّثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِسَاءَهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ حَدِيثًا فَقَالَتْ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ الْحَدِيثُ حَدِيثَ خُرَافَةَ فَقَالَ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا خُرَافَةُ إِنَّ خُرَافَةَ كَانَ رَجُلًا مِنْ عُذْرَةَ أَسَرَتْهُ الْجِنُّ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَمَكَثَ فِيهِنَّ دَهْرًا طَوِيلًا ثُمَّ رَدُّوهُ إِلَى الْإِنْسِ فَكَانَ يُحَدِّثُ النَّاسَ بِمَا رَأَى فِيهِمْ مِنْ الْأَعَاجِيبِ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ حَدِيثُ خُرَافَةَ قَالَ أَبِي أَبُو عَقِيلٍ هَذَا ثِقَةٌ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَقِيلٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ.
English Translation
Abu al-Nadr narrated to us: Abu Aqil -- that is, al-Thaqafi -- narrated to us: Mujalid ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Amir, from Masruq, from Aisha, who said: One night the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, related a story to his wives, and one of the women said: O Messenger of Allah, this story is like the story of Khurafah! He said: Do you know what Khurafah is? Khurafah was a man from Udhrah whom the jinn captured in the Age of Ignorance, and he remained among them a long time, then they returned him to mankind, and he used to relate to the people the wonders he had seen among them, so the people said, of any strange tale: 'A story of Khurafah.' My father said: this Abu Aqil is trustworthy; his name is Abdullah ibn Aqil al-Thaqafi.
