English Translation
A group of Jews came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Abu al-Qasim, tell us about certain matters we will ask you about; none knows them except a prophet.' Among what they asked was: 'What food did Israel (Ya'qub) prohibit for himself before the Torah was revealed?' He said: 'I ask you by Allah who revealed the Torah to Musa — do you know that Israel (Ya'qub, peace be upon him) became severely ill and his sickness was prolonged, so he made a vow to Allah that if Allah healed him from his illness, he would forbid upon himself the most beloved drink and the most beloved food to him? The most beloved food to him was camel meat and the most beloved drink was camel milk.' They said: 'O Allah, yes.'
