حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ حَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَصُومُ مِنْ شَهْرٍ مِنْ السَّنَةِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ صِيَامِهِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ كُلَّهُ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ خُذُوا مِنْ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يَمَلُّ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ أَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَيْهِ مَا دَاوَمَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ وَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى صَلَاةً يُدَاوِمُ عَلَيْهَا.
English Translation
Abd al-Wahhab told us: Hisham al-Dastawa'i informed us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman, that Aisha told him that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, never fasted in any month of the year more than his fasting in Sha'ban, for he used to fast the whole of Sha'ban. And he used to say: 'Take on of deeds what you are able to bear, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, does not grow weary until you grow weary.' The prayer most beloved to him was the one done consistently, even if it was little; and whenever he prayed a prayer, he would maintain it consistently.
