حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ إِلَى أَرْضِ الرُّومِ وَكَانَ عَامِلًا لِمُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الدَّرْبِ فَأُصِيبَ ابْنُ عَمٍّ لَنَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ فَضَالَةُ وَقَامَ عَلَى حُفْرَتِهِ حَتَّى وَارَاهُ فَلَمَّا سَوَّيْنَا عَلَيْهِ حُفْرَتَهُ قَالَ أَخِفُّوا عَنْهُ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِتَسْوِيَةِ الْقُبُورِ.
English Translation
Muhammad bin Ubayd narrated to us: Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated to us, from Thumamah, who said: We went out with Fadalah bin Ubayd to the land of the Byzantines, and he was a governor for Mu'awiyah over the frontier passes. A cousin of ours was killed, and Fadalah led the funeral prayer over him and stood by his grave until he had buried him. When we had leveled his grave he said: Make it level, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to command us to level the graves.
