حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخَطَّابِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ بُكَيْرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ قَالَ بَعَثَتْنِي قُرَيْشٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَعَ فِي قَلْبِي الْإِسْلَامُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا أَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ إِنِّي لَا أَخِيسُ بِالْعَهْدِ وَلَا أَخِيسُ الْبِرَّ وَارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِمْ فَإِنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِكَ الَّذِي فِيهِ الْآنَ فَارْجِعْ قَالَ بُكَيْرٌ وَأَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ أَنَّ أَبَا رَافِعٍ كَانَ قِبْطِيًّا.
English Translation
Abd al-Jabbar ibn Muhammad al-Khattabi narrated to us: Abdullah ibn Wahb narrated to us from Amr ibn al-Harith, that Bukayr ibn Abdullah narrated to him from al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Rafi' from his father from his grandfather Abu Rafi', who said: "Quraysh sent me to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. When I saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, Islam settled into my heart, and I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I will not return to them.' He said, 'I do not break a covenant, nor do I break faith [in my word] - so return to them, and if what is now in your heart remains in your heart [later], then return.'" Bukayr said: And al-Hasan informed me that Abu Rafi' was a Copt.
