English Translation
Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: I heard Shu'ba narrating from Qatada, who said: I heard al-Hasan narrating from Sa'd ibn Ubada, that his mother died, and he said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "My mother has died - shall I give charity on her behalf?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Which charity is most excellent?" He said, "The giving of water to drink." He said, "So that is the drinking-place of the family of Sa'd in Medina." Shu'ba said: I said to Qatada, "Who says, 'That is the drinking-place of the family of Sa'd'?" He said, "al-Hasan."
