حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي عَنْ جَدِّي رَافِعِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ أَنَّهُ أَسْلَمَ وَأَبَتْ امْرَأَتُهُ أَنْ تُسْلِمَ فَأَتَتْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ ابْنَتِي وَهِيَ فَطِيمٌ أَوْ شَبَهُهُ وَقَالَ رَافِعٌ ابْنَتِي فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اقْعُدْ نَاحِيَةً وَقَالَ لَهَا اقْعُدِي نَاحِيَةً فَأَقْعَدَ الصَّبِيَّةَ بَيْنَهُمَا ثُمَّ قَالَ ادْعُوَاهَا فَمَالَتْ إِلَى أُمِّهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِهَا فَمَالَتْ إِلَى أَبِيهَا فَأَخَذَهَا.
English Translation
Ali ibn Bahr told us: Isa ibn Yunus told us: Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja'far told us: My father informed me, from my grandfather Rafi' ibn Sinan, that he accepted Islam, but his wife refused to accept Islam. She came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said something about her daughter -- who was a weaned infant or similar -- and Rafi' said "my daughter." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Sit to one side," and said to her: "Sit to one side." He seated the little girl between them, then said: "Call her, both of you." She leaned toward her mother. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, guide her," and she then leaned toward her father, and he took her.
