حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ قَرْثَعٍ الضَّبِّيِّ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي زَعَمَ سَأَلَهُ الرَّابِعَةَ أَمْ لَا قَالَ قُلْتُ هُوَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي جُمِعَ فِيهِ أَبُوهُ أَوْ أَبُوكُمْ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ لَا يَتَطَهَّرُ رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ ثُمَّ يَمْشِي إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ثُمَّ يُنْصِتُ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ الْإِمَامُ صَلَاتَهُ إِلَّا كَانَ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا مَا اجْتُنِبَتْ الْمَقْتَلَةُ.
English Translation
Affan told us: Abu Awanah told us, from Mughirah, from Abu Ma'shar, from Ibrahim, from Alqamah, from Qarth' al-Dabbi, from Salman al-Farisi, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what the day of Jumu'ah is?" I said: "Yes" -- he said: I do not know whether he asked a fourth time or not -- he said: I said: "It is the day on which his father, or your father, was gathered." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about the day of Jumu'ah? No Muslim man purifies himself and then walks to the mosque, then listens attentively until the Imam finishes his prayer, except that it is an expiation for what is between it and the following Friday, so long as the major sins are avoided."
