حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ التَّيْمِيِّ قَالَ طَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ فِي مَجْلِسِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ فَحَدَّثَنَا عَنْ عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسُئِلَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ صَلَاتَهُ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدٌ أَوْ عُبَيْدٌ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ الَّذِي يَشُكُّ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُمْ أُمِرُوا بِصِيَامٍ قَالَ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ بَعْضَ النَّهَارِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فُلَانًا وَفُلَانَةَ قَدْ بَلَغَهُمَا الْجَهْدُ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَى حَدِيثِ يَزِيدَ وَابْنِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ.
English Translation
Sulayman ibn Dawud told us: Shu'bah told us, from al-Taymi, who said: A man came upon us in the gathering of Abu Uthman al-Nahdi and related to us from Ubayd, the freedman of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was asked about the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he mentioned his prayer between Maghrib and Isha. Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Uthman ibn Ghiyath told us, he said: I was with Abu Uthman; he said: a man among the people said: Sa'd or Ubayd told us -- Uthman ibn Ghiyath was uncertain -- the freedman of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) -- that they were commanded to fast, he said: a man came during part of the day and said: O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so and so-and-so have been overcome by hardship. And he mentioned the meaning of the hadith of Yazid and Ibn Abi Ubayd, from Sulayman.
