English Translation
It was narrated to us by Abdur-Rahman ibn Mahdi, who said: It was narrated to us by Za'idah, from Abdul-Malik ibn 'Umayr, who said: It was narrated to me by the nephew of Hudhayfah, from Hudhayfah, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, one night to pray behind him in his prayer. He opened the prayer and recited in a manner that was neither too quiet nor too loud, a beautiful recitation, reciting slowly and distinctly, letting us hear it. He said: Then he bowed for about as long as he had stood, then he raised his head for about as long as his bowing had been, and said: 'Allah hears the one who praises Him,' then he said: 'Praise be to Allah, Possessor of might, sovereignty, greatness and grandeur,' until he finished with 'and bounty,' and the darkness of night was upon him. He said: Abdul-Malik said: This was the voluntary night prayer.
