حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ أَتَيْنَا حُذَيْفَةَ فَقُلْنَا دُلَّنَا عَلَى أَقْرَبِ النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَدْيًا وَسَمْتًا وَوَلَاءً نَأْخُذْ عَنْهُ وَنَسْمَعْ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ كَانَ أَقْرَبَ النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَدْيًا وَسَمْتًا وَدَلًّا ابْنُ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ حَتَّى يَتَوَارَى عَنِّي فِي بَيْتِهِ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَةً.
English Translation
Husayn b. Muhammad told us, Isra'il told us, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Abd al-Rahman b. Yazid, he said: We came to Hudhayfah and said: "Show us the one closest to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) in guidance, manner, and devotion, that we may take from him and listen to him." He said: "The one closest to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) in guidance, manner, and bearing was Ibn Umm 'Abd, until he would withdraw from me into his house; and the well-informed among the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) knew that Ibn Umm 'Abd was among those closest to God in nearness."
