حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لَهُ هَلْ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّقِيَّ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِعَيْنِهِ يَعْنِي الْحُوَّارَى قَالَ مَا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّقِيَّ بِعَيْنِهِ حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَقِيلَ لَهُ هَلْ كَانَ لَكُمْ مَنَاخِلُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَا كَانَتْ لَنَا مَنَاخِلُ قِيلَ لَهُ فَكَيْفَ كُنْتُمْ تَصْنَعُونَ بِالشَّعِيرِ قَالَ نَنْفُخُهُ فَيَطِيرُ مِنْهُ مَا طَارَ.
English Translation
Abd al-Samad narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Rahman, that is Ibn Abd Allah ibn Dinar, narrated to us: Abu Hazim narrated to us, from Sahl ibn Sa'd, that it was said to him: Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ever see fine white bread with his own eyes before his death, meaning refined flour bread? He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, never saw fine white bread with his own eyes until he met Allah, Mighty and Majestic. It was said to him: Did you have sieves in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? He said: We had no sieves. It was said to him: Then how did you deal with the barley? He said: We would blow on it, and whatever chaff flew off, flew off.
