English Translation
Yahya ibn Uthman Abu Zakariyya al-Nasri al-Harbi narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ayyash narrated to us, from Abu Bakr ibn Abdullah, from Abu Sallam, from al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib al-Kindi, that he sat with Ubadah ibn al-Samit, Abu al-Darda, and al-Harith ibn Mu'awiyah al-Kindi, and they discussed the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Abu al-Darda said to Ubadah: O Ubadah, the words of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in such-and-such a campaign concerning the matter of the fifths. Ubadah said - Ishaq, that is Ibn Isa, said in his account - that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led them in prayer during their campaign near a place called Ba'ir, by the site of the division of spoils; when he had finished the prayer with the greeting of peace, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood and took hold of a piece of wool between his two fingertips and said: This is from your spoils, and I have no share in it except my share along with you, apart from the khums, and the khums is returned to you. So render up the thread and the needle, and whatever is greater or smaller than that; do not embezzle, for embezzlement is a fire and a disgrace upon those responsible for it, in this world and the next. Fight the people for the sake of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, near and far, and do not fear the blame of any blamer in the cause of Allah. Uphold the limits set by Allah both at home and while traveling, and strive in the way of Allah, for jihad is a great gate among the gates of Paradise, by which Allah, Blessed and Exalted, delivers people from worry and grief. Yahya ibn Uthman narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ayyash narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Yusuf, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Sallam, similarly.
