Surayj told us, al-Mu'afa told us, Mughirah ibn Ziyad told us, from Ubadah ibn Nusayy, from al-Aswad ibn Tha'labah, from Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to visit me while I was ill, among people from the Ansar who were visiting me, and he said, "Do you know what the martyr is?" They fell silent. He said, "Do you know what the martyr is?" They fell silent. He said, "Do you know what the martyr is?" So I said to my wife, "Prop me up," and she propped me up, and I said, "One who accepts Islam, then emigrates, then is killed in the path of Allah - he is a martyr." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Then the martyrs of my nation would indeed be few. Being killed in the path of Allah is martyrdom, the abdomen is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, and childbirth is martyrdom."
