قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ الْغَازِ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقَاتِلُ فَيُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدٌ يَعْنِي النُّفَسَاءَ.
English Translation
Waki' told us, Hisham ibn al-Ghaz told us, from Ubadah ibn Nusayy, from Ubadah ibn al-Samit, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "What do you consider the martyr among you to be?" They said, "One who fights and is killed in the path of Allah, the Exalted." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Then the martyrs of my nation would indeed be few. One killed in the path of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, is a martyr; one who dies of the plague is a martyr; one who dies of an abdominal ailment is a martyr; and a woman who dies in childbirth is a martyr" - meaning the woman in confinement after childbirth.
