English Translation
Abu al-Mughira narrated to us: Mu'an ibn Rifa'a narrated to us: Ali ibn Yazid narrated to me, who said: I heard al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman narrating from Abu Umama, who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed, on a day of intense heat, near Baqi' al-Gharqad, and the people were walking behind him. He said: When he heard the sound of the sandals, it weighed on his heart, so he sat down until they went ahead of him, lest any trace of pride enter his heart. When he passed by Baqi' al-Gharqad, there were two graves in which two men had just been buried. He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped and said, "Whom did you bury here today?" They said, "O Prophet of Allah, so-and-so and so-and-so." He said, "Indeed the two of them are being punished right now and are being tried in their graves." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, for what reason?" He said, "As for one of them, he did not guard himself from urine; and as for the other, he used to go about spreading malicious talk." He took a fresh palm-branch, split it, and placed it on the two graves. They said, "O Prophet of Allah, why did you do that?" He said, "So that it may be lightened for them." They said, "O Prophet of Allah, until when will Allah punish them?" He said, "That is unseen knowledge which none knows but Allah." He said, "Were it not for the fragmenting of your hearts, or your exaggerating in speech, you would hear what I hear."
