حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ عَفَّانُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ وَمَعَهُ غُلَامَانِ وَهَبَ أَحَدَهُمَا لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَقَالَ لَا تَضْرِبْهُ فَإِنِّي قَدْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْ ضَرْبِ أَهْلِ الصَّلَاةِ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي قَالَ عَفَّانُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ وَمَعَهُ غُلَامَانِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخْدِمْنَا قَالَ خُذْ أَيَّهُمَا شِئْتَ قَالَ خِرْ لِي قَالَ خُذْ هَذَا وَلَا تَضْرِبْهُ فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي مَقْبَلَنَا مِنْ خَيْبَرَ وَإِنِّي قَدْ نَهَيْتُ وَأَعْطَى أَبَا ذَرٍّ غُلَامًا وَقَالَ اسْتَوْصِ بِهِ مَعْرُوفًا فَأَعْتَقَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا فَعَلَ الْغُلَامُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمَرْتَنِي أَنْ أَسْتَوْصِيَ بِهِ مَعْرُوفًا فَأَعْتَقْتُهُ.
English Translation
Hasan ibn Musa and Affan told us, they said: Hammad ibn Salamah told us. Affan said: Abu Ghalib informed us, from Abu Umamah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came from Khaybar and with him were two boys. He gave one of them to Ali ibn Abi Talib and said: Do not strike him, for I have forbidden the striking of those who pray, and I have seen him praying. Affan said in his narration: Abu Talib informed us, from Abu Umamah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came from Khaybar and with him were two boys, and Ali said: O Messenger of Allah, give us a servant. He said: Take whichever of the two you wish. He said: Choose for me. He said: Take this one, and do not strike him, for I saw him praying on our way from Khaybar, and I have indeed forbidden it. And he gave a boy to Abu Dharr and said: Treat him well. So he freed him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: What did the boy do? He said: O Messenger of Allah, you commanded me to treat him well, so I freed him.
