حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ الضَّبِّيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا نَصْرٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ مُرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا عِدْلَ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِالصِّيَامِ.
English Translation
Abd al-Samad told us: Shu'bah told us: Muhammad ibn Abi Ya'qub al-Dabbi told us, saying: I heard Abu Nasr relating from Raja ibn Haywah, from Abu Umamah, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: Command me to do a deed that will admit me to Paradise. He said: You must fast, for there is nothing equal to it. Then I came to him a second time, and he said: You must fast.
