حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ دَخَلَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ فَقَالَ مَا يُحَدِّثُكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعَثُ صَدَقَ فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ خُصُومَةٌ فِي أَرْضٍ فَخَاصَمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَيَمِينُهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِذَنْ يَحْلِفَ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ صَبْرًا لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ قَالَ فَنَزَلَتْ { إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا }.
English Translation
Waki' told us, al-A'mash told us, from Abu Wa'il, who said: Al-Ash'ath ibn Qays came in and said: What has Abu Abd al-Rahman been telling you? They informed him, and Ash'ath said: He spoke the truth; it was revealed about me. There was a dispute between me and a man over a piece of land, and I brought my dispute against him to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: Do you have evidence? I said: No. He said: Then his oath. I said: Then he will swear! The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever swears a false oath deliberately, to seize thereby the property of a Muslim while he is a wrongdoer in it, will meet Allah, Mighty and Majestic, while He is angry with him. He said: So it was revealed: Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their own oaths for a small price...
