قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَأَرْمُقَنَّ اللَّيْلَةَ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَوَسَّدْتُ عَتَبَتَهُ أَوْ فُسْطَاطَهُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ طَوِيلَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُمَا دُونَ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَهُمَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ دُونَ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَهُمَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ دُونَ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَهُمَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ دُونَ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَهُمَا ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ فَذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ و حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبٌ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ فِي حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَالصَّوَابُ مَا رَوَى مُصْعَبٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَذَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى الْأَنْصَارِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ وَالصَّوَابُ مَا قَالَ مُصْعَبٌ ومَعْنٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فِيهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَهِمَ فِيهِ.
English Translation
He said: I read to Abd al-Rahman: Malik, from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr, that Abdullah ibn Qays informed him, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani, that he said: 'I will surely watch tonight the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.' So I laid my head at his threshold or his tent, and he prayed two light rak'ahs, then he prayed two long rak'ahs, then he prayed two rak'ahs shorter than the two before them, then he prayed two rak'ahs shorter than the two before them, then he prayed two rak'ahs shorter than the two before them, then he prayed two rak'ahs shorter than the two before them, then he prayed witr - that makes thirteen. Abdullah said: And Mus'ab told us: Malik told me, from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr, from his father, that Abdullah ibn Qays ibn Makhramah informed him, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani, and he mentioned the hadith, and he did not mention Abd al-Rahman in Malik's hadith from his father - and what is correct is what Mus'ab narrated from his father. Likewise Abu Musa al-Ansari told us: Ma'n told us: Malik told us, from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr, from his father, that Abdullah ibn Qays ibn Makhramah informed him, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani - and what is correct is what Mus'ab and Ma'n said, from his father, and Abd al-Rahman was not mentioned in it from his father - he erred in it.
