حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ إِنِّي قَاعِدٌ إِلَى جَنْبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا إِذْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ وَغَشِيَتْهُ السَّكِينَةُ وَوَقَعَ فَخِذُهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي حِينَ غَشِيَتْهُ السَّكِينَةُ قَالَ زَيْدٌ فَلَا وَاللَّهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا قَطُّ أَثْقَلَ مِنْ فَخِذِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ يَا زَيْدُ فَأَخَذْتُ كَتِفًا فَقَالَ اكْتُبْ لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ الْآيَةَ كُلَّهَا إِلَى قَوْلِهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا فَكَتَبْتُ ذَلِكَ فِي كَتِفٍ فَقَامَ حِينَ سَمِعَهَا ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا أَعْمَى فَقَامَ حِينَ سَمِعَ فَضِيلَةَ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَكَيْفَ بِمَنْ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْجِهَادَ مِمَّنْ هُوَ أَعْمَى وَأَشْبَاهِ ذَلِكَ قَالَ زَيْدٌ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا مَضَى كَلَامُهُ أَوْ مَا هُوَ إِلَّا أَنْ قَضَى كَلَامَهُ غَشِيَتْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ السَّكِينَةُ فَوَقَعَتْ فَخِذُهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَوَجَدْتُ مِنْ ثِقَلِهَا كَمَا وَجَدْتُ فِي الْمَرَّةِ الْأُولَى ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِ لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ { غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ } قَالَ زَيْدٌ فَأَلْحَقْتُهَا فَوَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى مُلْحَقِهَا عِنْدَ صَدْعٍ كَانَ فِي الْكَتِفِ حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ أَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا إِلَى جَنْبِهِ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ.
English Translation
Sulayman ibn Dawud told us: Abd al-Rahman told us, from Abu al-Zinad, from Kharijah ibn Zayd, who said: Zayd ibn Thabit said: 'I was sitting beside the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, one day when revelation came to him.' He said: 'And tranquility overcame him, and his thigh fell upon my thigh when the tranquility overcame him.' Zayd said: 'By Allah, I never found anything as heavy as the thigh of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.' Then it was lifted from him, and he said: 'Write, O Zayd.' So I took a shoulder-blade [to write on], and he said: 'Write: "Not equal are those of the believers who sit at home and the mujahideen..."' the whole verse, up to His saying '...a great reward.' So I wrote that on the shoulder-blade. Ibn Umm Maktum, who was a blind man, stood up when he heard it - he stood up when he heard the excellence of the mujahideen - and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about one who is unable to perform jihad, being blind and the like?' Zayd said: 'By Allah, no sooner had his words finished than tranquility overcame the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, again, and his thigh fell upon my thigh, and I felt its heaviness just as I had felt it the first time. Then it was lifted from him, and he said: "Read." So I read to him: "Not equal are those of the believers who sit at home and the mujahideen." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "...other than those who have a disabling injury..."' Zayd said: 'So I added it. By Allah, it is as if I can still see where it was added, at a crack that was in the shoulder-blade.' Surayj told us: Ibn Abi al-Zinad told us, from his father, from Kharijah ibn Zayd, who said: Zayd ibn Thabit said: 'Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down revelation upon His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, while I was beside him,' and he mentioned something similar.
