حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ لَمَّا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أُحُدٍ رَجَعَ أُنَاسٌ خَرَجُوا مَعَهُ فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِرْقَتَيْنِ فِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ نَقْتُلُهُمْ وَفِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ لَا قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَكَانَ فَرِيقٌ يَقُولُونَ قَتْلَهُمْ وَفَرِيقٌ يَقُولُونَ لَا قَالَ بَهْزٌ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ { فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ } فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهَا طَيْبَةُ وَإِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الْخَبَثَ كَمَا تَنْفِي النَّارُ خَبَثَ الْفِضَّةِ.
English Translation
Affan told us: Shu'bah told us, he said: Adi ibn Thabit told me, he said: I heard Abdullah ibn Yazid, from Zayd ibn Thabit, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went out to Uhud, some people who had gone out with him turned back, and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, became two groups: one group said, 'Let us kill them,' and another group said, 'No.' Ibn Ja'far said: a group said 'kill them' and a group said 'no.' Bahz said: Then Allah revealed: 'What is the matter with you that you are two groups concerning the hypocrites?' Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'It (Madinah) is Tayyibah; it expels impurity just as the fire expels the impurity of silver.'
