حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ الطَّائِفِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمِقْدَامِ عَنْ ابْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْآخِرَ قَدْ زَنَى فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ ثَلَّثَ ثُمَّ رَبَّعَ فَنَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَرَّةً فَأَقَرَّ عِنْدَهُ بِالزِّنَا فَرَدَّدَهُ أَرْبَعًا ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَأَمَرَنَا فَحَفَرْنَا لَهُ حَفِيرَةً لَيْسَتْ بِالطَّوِيلَةِ فَرُجِمَ فَارْتَحَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَئِيبًا حَزِينًا فَسِرْنَا حَتَّى نَزَلَ مَنْزِلًا فَسُرِّيَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِي يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ غُفِرَ لَهُ وَأُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ.
English Translation
Yazid told us: Hajjaj ibn Artat informed us, from Abd al-Malik ibn al-Mughira al-Ta'ifi, from Abdullah ibn al-Miqdam, from Ibn Shaddad, from Abu Dharr, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on a journey, and a man came to him and said: "The other one has committed adultery." He turned away from him, then a third and a fourth time. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, dismounted and — he said once — the man confessed to him of adultery, and he repeated his confession four times. Then he dismounted and ordered us, so we dug a pit for him, not a deep one, and he was stoned. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then set off, sorrowful and grieved. We traveled until he stopped at a place, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was relieved, and he said to me: "O Abu Dharr, have you not seen that your companion has been forgiven and admitted to Paradise?"
