English Translation
Affan told us: Hammam told us: Qatadah told us, from Sa'id ibn Abi al-Hasan, from Abd Allah ibn al-Samit, that he was with Abu Dharr when his stipend came out, and he had a slave-girl of his with him who was seeing to his needs. He said: Seven [coins] were left over with her. He said: So he ordered her to buy fulus (small copper coins) with it. I said to him: If only you had saved it for a need that might befall you, or for a guest who might come to stay with you. He said: My close friend charged me that whatever gold or silver is tied up (hoarded), it is a burning coal for its owner until he spends it in the way of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
