English Translation

Waki' told us, Abu Ja'far told us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, regarding the saying of Allah, blessed and exalted is He, "He is the one who is able to send upon you a punishment from above you" — the verse — he said: They are four, and all of them are punishments, and all of them will occur without fail. Two of them passed twenty-five years after the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when the people were made into factions and some of them tasted the violence of others. And two are certain to occur without fail: the sinking into the earth and the pelting with stones. Abdullah told us, Rawh ibn Abdul-Mu'min told us, Umar ibn Shaqiq told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, regarding His saying, "Say, He is the one who is able," and he mentioned the like of it, saying in his account, "the sinking into the earth and the hurling of stones."
