حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَجُلٌ سَمَّاهُ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ جَارِيَةَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُمَا قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَمِلْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ عَمَلًا قَالَ مَا هُوَ قَالَ نِسْوَةٌ مَعِي فِي الدَّارِ قُلْنَ لِي إِنَّكَ تَقْرَأُ وَلَا نَقْرَأُ فَصَلِّ بِنَا فَصَلَّيْتُ ثَمَانِيًا وَالْوَتْرَ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَرَأَيْنَا أَنَّ سُكُوتَهُ رِضًا بِمَا كَانَ.
English Translation
'Abdullah told us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad told us, a man he named told us, Ya'qub ibn 'Abdullah al-Ash'ari told us, 'Isa ibn Jariyah told us, from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I did something last night." He said: "What was it?" He said: "There were some women with me in the house; they said to me: 'You can recite and we cannot, so lead us in prayer.' So I prayed eight rak'ahs with them, and the witr." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, remained silent. He said: So we thought his silence was approval of what had been done.
