English Translation
Isma'il told us, Ayyub informed us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from a man of 'Abd al-Qays who had been with the Khawarij and then left them, who said: They entered a village, and 'Abdullah ibn Khabbab came out frightened, dragging his cloak. They said: "Do not be afraid." He said: "By Allah, you have indeed frightened me." They said: "Are you 'Abdullah ibn Khabbab, the companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said: "Yes." They said: "Have you heard from your father a hadith which he related from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that you could relate to us?" He said: "Yes, I heard him relate from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he mentioned a time of tribulation, saying: 'The one sitting during it is better than the one standing, and the one standing during it is better than the one walking, and the one walking during it is better than the one running.'" They said: "If you reach that time, be the 'Abdullah who is killed." Ayyub said: I only know that he also said: "and do not be the 'Abdullah who kills." They said: "Did you hear this yourself from your father, relating it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said: "Yes." So they brought him forward to the bank of the river and struck off his neck, and his blood flowed like the strap of a sandal, not spreading out, and they ripped open his pregnant mother to see what was in her womb. Abu al-Nadr told us, Sulayman told us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, similarly, except that he said "it did not spread" meaning it did not scatter, and he said "do not be the 'Abdullah who kills," and Bahz said likewise.
