حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ وَخَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ يَقُولُ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ فَجَعَلَ يَهْوِي بِيَدِهِ قَالَ خَلَفٌ يَهْوِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُدَّامَهُ فَسَأَلَهُ الْقَوْمُ حِينَ انْصَرَفَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ هُوَ كَانَ يُلْقِي عَلَيَّ شَرَرَ النَّارِ لِيَفْتِنَنِي عَنْ صَلَاتِي فَتَنَاوَلْتُهُ فَلَوْ أَخَذْتُهُ مَا انْفَلَتَ مِنِّي حَتَّى يُنَاطَ إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وِلْدَانُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ.
English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq and Khalaf ibn al-Walid narrated to us, they said: Isra'il narrated to us from Simak, that he heard Jabir ibn Samurah say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us in the dawn prayer, and he began to wave his hand - Khalaf said, waving in front of him during the prayer. The people asked him when he finished, and he said: "It was Satan; he was throwing sparks of fire at me to distract me from my prayer, so I took hold of him. Had I taken him, I would have tied him to a pillar among the pillars of the mosque, for the children of the people of Madinah to look at him, and he would not have escaped from me."
