حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَأَصْحَابُهُ يَتَذَاكَرُونَ الشِّعْرَ وَأَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ مَعَهُمْ.
English Translation
Jabir ibn Samurah said: I witnessed the Prophet (peace be upon him) more than a hundred times in the mosque while his Companions discussed poetry and matters of the pre-Islamic period. Sometimes he would smile along with them.
