حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ قَالَ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ تَغْلِبَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي أُعْطِي أَقْوَامًا وَأَرُدُّ آخَرِينَ وَالَّذِينَ أَدَعُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ الَّذِينَ أُعْطِي أُعْطِي أَقْوَامًا لِمَا أَخَافُ مِنْ هَلَعِهِمْ قَالَ وَأَكِلُ أَقْوَامًا إِلَى مَا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مِنْ الْغِنَى وَالْخَيْرِ مِنْهُمْ عَمْرُو بْنُ تَغْلِبَ قَالَ قَالَ عَمْرٌو فَوَاللَّهِ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي بِكَلِمَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُمْرَ النَّعَمِ.
English Translation
Amr ibn Taghlib said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'I give to some people and turn others away, and those I leave are dearer to me than those I give to. I give to some people because I fear their impatience, and I entrust others to what Allah, Mighty and Sublime, has placed in their hearts of contentment and goodness, among them Amr ibn Taghlib.' Amr said: 'By Allah, I would not love to have red camels in exchange for the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).'
