حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ حَدَّثَنَا بِسْطَامُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ خَلِيفَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْغُبَرِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَائِذَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْمُزَنِيَّ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ نَبِيِّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَعْرَابِيٌّ قَدْ أَلَحَّ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ يَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَطْعِمْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطِنِي قَالَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلَ الْمَنْزِلَ وَأَخَذَ بِعِضَادَتَيْ الْحُجْرَةِ وَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ وَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ مَا سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا وَهُوَ يَجِدُ لَيْلَةً تُبِيتُهُ فَأَمَرَ لَهُ بِطَعَامٍ.
English Translation
Rawh ibn 'Ubada told us, Bistam ibn Muslim told us, he said: I heard Khalifa ibn 'Abdullah al-Ghubari say: I heard 'A'idh ibn 'Amr al-Muzani say: While we were with our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a bedouin pressed him insistently in asking, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, feed me! O Messenger of Allah, give me!" He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then stood up and went into the house, and took hold of the two sides of the doorway of the chamber, and turned his face to us and said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if you knew what I know about asking, no man would ask another man while he could find a night's provision to spend the night on." Then he ordered that food be given to him.
