حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا تَمِيمَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَدِيفِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ قَالَ عَاصِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ رَدِيفِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَثَرَ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارُهُ فَقُلْتُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا قُلْتَ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ تَعَاظَمَ وَقَالَ بِقُوَّتِي صَرَعْتُهُ وَإِذَا قُلْتَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَصَاغَرَ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'ba told us, from 'Asim, who said: I heard Abu Tamima narrate from the one who rode behind the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Shu'ba said: 'Asim said, from Abu Tamima, from a man, from the one who rode behind the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: The Prophet's donkey stumbled with him, so I said, "May Satan perish." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Do not say 'may Satan perish,' for when you say that, he grows greater and says, 'By my strength I threw him down.' But when you say 'In the name of Allah,' he shrinks until he becomes like a fly."
