Waki' told us, Aban ibn Yazid told us, from Budayl ibn Maysarah al-Uqayli, from a man among them known as Abu Atiyyah, who said: Malik ibn al-Huwayrith used to come to us at our place of prayer and converse. He said: One day the time for prayer came, so we said: "Step forward." He said: "No, let one of you step forward until I tell you why I do not step forward. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Whoever visits a people should not lead them in prayer; rather, let a man from among them lead them.'" Abdullah told us, he said: Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj and Muhammad ibn Aban al-Wasiti told us - they said: Aban told us, Budayl told us, the like of it. Yazid told us, he said: Aban ibn Yazid al-Attar informed us, from Budayl ibn Maysarah, Abu Atiyyah, a client of ours, told me, who said: Malik ibn al-Huwayrith used to come to us at our place of prayer, and he mentioned the hadith - meaning my father's hadith.
