English Translation

Ibn Numayr told us: Hisham told us, from his father, from al-Ahnaf ibn Qays, from an uncle of his called Jariyah ibn Qudamah al-Sa'di, that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something that will benefit me, and be brief with me, so that I may retain it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not become angry," and he repeated this to him several times, each time saying: "Do not become angry." Yahya ibn Sa'id told us: Hisham informed us: my father informed me, from al-Ahnaf ibn Qays, from an uncle of his called Jariyah ibn Qudamah, that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something and be brief with me," and he mentioned the hadith. [Ahmad said:] Yahya narrated it thus, as Hisham said: "I said: O Messenger of Allah" - and they say he [al-Ahnaf] did not meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) - meaning Yahya ibn Sa'id says [this], and they say [this]. Abu Mu'awiyah told us: Hisham ibn Urwah told us, from his father, from al-Ahnaf ibn Qays, from Jariyah ibn Qudamah, who said: An uncle of mine told me, that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that will benefit me, and be brief," and he mentioned the hadith.
