حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا كَهْمَسٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ شَقِيقٍ حَدَّثَنَا هَرَمِيُّ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ خُرَيْمٍ وَكَانَا يُغَازِيَانِ فَحَدَّثَانِي حَدِيثًا وَلَا يَشْعُرُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَّ صَاحِبَهُ حَدَّثَنِيهِ عَنْ مُرَّةَ الْبَهْزِيِّ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَرِيقٍ مِنْ طُرُقِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ فِي فِتْنَةٍ تَثُورُ فِي أَقْطَارِ الْأَرْضِ كَأَنَّهَا صَيَاصِي بَقَرٍ قَالُوا نَصْنَعُ مَاذَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَ عَلَيْكُمْ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابَهُ أَوْ اتَّبِعُوا هَذَا وَأَصْحَابَهُ قَالَ فَأَسْرَعْتُ حَتَّى عَطَفْتُ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَذَا فَإِذَا هُوَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.
English Translation
Abu Usamah told us: Kahmas informed us: Abdullah ibn Shaqiq told us: Harami ibn al-Harith and Usamah ibn Khurayim told us - and they used to go on military campaigns - and each of them told me a hadith without either knowing that his companion had told me the same, from Murrah al-Bahzi, who said: While we were with the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of the roads of Medina, he said: "How will it be during a tribulation that stirs in the corners of the earth like the horns of cattle?" They said: "What shall we do, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "[Follow] this one and his companions" - or "follow this one and his companions." He said: So I hurried until I turned toward the man and said: "Is it this one, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "This one" - and there he was, Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him.
