English Translation
Hawdhah ibn Khalifah told us: Awf told us, from al-Hasan, who said: Ma'qil ibn Yasar fell ill with an illness that grew grave, so Ibn Ziyad came to visit him and said: "I will tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: 'Whoever is entrusted with a flock and does not encompass them with sincere counsel will not find the scent of Paradise, though its scent is found from a distance of a hundred years' [journey].'" Ibn Ziyad said: "Why did you not tell me this before now?" He said: "And now, were it not for the position you hold, I would not have told it to you."
