English Translation
Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Ali ibn Zayd informed us, from Abu Nadrah, that a young man asked Imran ibn Husayn about the prayer of the Prophet (peace be upon him) during travel. He went to the gathering of al-Uqah and said: 'This young man asked me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) during travel, so remember what I tell you. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never traveled except that he prayed two units for each prayer until he returned. He stayed in Makkah at the time of the conquest for eighteen nights, praying two units at a time for the people.' My father said: Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us with this chain and added: 'except Maghrib.' Then he would say: 'O people of Makkah, stand and pray two more units, for we are travelers.' Then he marched to Hunayn and al-Taif, praying two units at a time. Then he returned to al-Jiranah and performed Umrah from there in Dhul-Qadah. Then I fought with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and performed Hajj and Umrah, and he prayed two units at a time. And with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he prayed two units at a time. Yunus said: except Maghrib. And with Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) at the beginning of his rule — Yunus said: two units except Maghrib — then Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed four units after that.
