حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَامِعِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ مُحْرِزٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ جَاءَتْ بَنُو تَمِيمٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَجَاءَ حَيٌّ مِنْ يَمَنٍ فَقَالَ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَبِلْنَا.
English Translation
Waki and Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Jami ibn Shaddad, from Safwan ibn Muhriz, from Imran ibn Husayn — Abd al-Rahman said: A group from Banu Tamim came — who said: 'Accept the glad tidings, O Banu Tamim.' They said: 'You have given us glad tidings, so give us something.' His face changed. Then the people of Yemen came, and he said: 'Accept the glad tidings, O people of Yemen, since Banu Tamim did not accept them.' They said: 'We accept them, O Messenger of Allah.' Then they said: 'We have come to ask you about this matter.' He said: 'Allah existed and nothing existed before Him, and His Throne was upon the water. He wrote everything in the Preserved Tablet, and He created the heavens and the earth.'
