English Translation
Hasan b. Musa and Affan told us, they said: Hammad b. Salama told us, from Ali b. Zayd, from Umara, from Abu Burda, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will gather the nations on level ground on the Day of Resurrection. When it becomes evident to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, that He will separate His creation, He will represent to each people what they used to worship, and they will follow it until they are cast into the Fire along with it. Then our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, will come to us while we are in an elevated place, and He will say, 'Who are you?' We will say, 'We are the Muslims.' He will say, 'What are you waiting for?' They will say, 'We are waiting for our Lord, Mighty and Majestic.' He will say, 'And would you recognize Him if you saw Him?' They will say, 'Yes.' He will say, 'How would you recognize Him, when you have not seen Him?' They will say, 'Indeed, He has no equal.' Then He will manifest Himself to us, laughing, and will say, 'Rejoice, O Muslims, for there is not one of you but that I have put a Jew or a Christian in his place in the Fire.'" Affan told us: Hammad b. Salama told us: Ali b. Zayd b. Jud'an informed us, from Umara al-Qurashi, who said: We went as a delegation to Umar b. Abd al-Aziz, and Abu Burda was among us. He fulfilled our needs, and when Abu Burda left, he came back. Umar b. Abd al-Aziz said, "Remember, old man, what brought you back? Did I not fulfill your needs?" Abu Burda said, "Except for a hadith my father told me from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him," and he mentioned: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will gather the nations on the Day of Resurrection" - and he related the hadith. Umar said to Abu Burda, "By Allah, did you hear Abu Musa relate this from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said, "Yes, indeed I heard it from my father relating it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him."
