حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أَرْضِ قَوْمِي فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ الْحَجُّ حَجَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَحَجَجْتُ فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ نَازِلٌ بِالْأَبْطَحِ فَقَالَ لِي بِمَ أَهْلَلْتَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ بِحَجٍّ كَحَجِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَحْسَنْتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَلْ سُقْتَ هَدْيًا فَقُلْتُ مَا فَعَلْتُ فَقَالَ لِي اذْهَبْ فَطُفْ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ثُمَّ احْلِلْ فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَفَعَلْتُ مَا أَمَرَنِي وَأَتَيْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنْ قَوْمِي فَغَسَلَتْ رَأْسِي بِالْخِطْمِيِّ وَفَلَّتْهُ ثُمَّ أَهْلَلْتُ بِالْحَجِّ يَوْمَ التَّرْوِيَةِ فَمَا زِلْتُ أُفْتِي النَّاسَ بِالَّذِي أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ ثُمَّ زَمَنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ ثُمَّ زَمَنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ فَبَيْنَا أَنَا قَائِمٌ عِنْدَ الْحَجَرِ الْأَسْوَدِ أَوْ الْمَقَامِ أُفْتِ النَّاسَ بِالَّذِي أَمَرَنِي بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ أَتَانِي رَجُلٌ فَسَارَّنِي فَقَالَ لَا تَعْجَلْ بِفُتْيَاكَ فَإِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَدْ أَحْدَثَ فِي الْمَنَاسِكِ شَيْئًا فَقُلْتُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ كُنَّا أَفْتَيْنَاهُ فِي الْمَنَاسِكِ شَيْئًا فَلْيَتَّئِدْ فَإِنَّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَادِمٌ فَبِهِ فَأْتَمُّوا قَالَ فَقَدِمَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ هَلْ أَحْدَثْتَ فِي الْمَنَاسِكِ شَيْئًا قَالَ نَعَمْ أَنْ نَأْخُذَ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْمُرُ بِالتَّمَامِ وَأَنْ نَأْخُذَ بِسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَحْلِلْ حَتَّى نَحَرَ الْهَدْيَ.
English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us: al-Thawri informed us, from Qays b. Muslim, from Tariq b. Shihab, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent me to the land of my people. When the time for Hajj came, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed Hajj, and I performed Hajj. I came to him while he was encamped at al-Abtah, and he said to me: "With what have you entered ihram, O Abdullah b. Qays?" I said: "Labbayk, with a hajj like the hajj of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: "You have done well." Then he said: "Have you brought a sacrificial animal?" I said: I have not. He said to me: "Go, circumambulate the House, and go between Safa and Marwah, then release yourself from ihram." So I went and did what he commanded me, and I came to a woman from my people, and she washed my head with khitmi and combed it. Then I entered ihram for Hajj on the Day of Tarwiyah. I continued to give people rulings according to what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had commanded me, until he passed away - then during the time of Abu Bakr, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him, then during the time of Umar, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him. While I was standing near the Black Stone or the Maqam, giving people rulings according to what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had commanded me, a man came to me and whispered to me, saying: "Do not be hasty with your ruling, for the Commander of the Faithful has introduced something new in the rites." So I said: "O people, whoever we have given a ruling to concerning the rites, let him wait, for the Commander of the Faithful is arriving, so follow him." He said: Then Umar, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him, arrived, and I said: "O Commander of the Faithful, have you introduced something new in the rites?" He said: "Yes - that we should take the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for it commands completion, and that we should take the Sunnah of our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for he did not release himself from ihram until he had sacrificed the offering."
