English Translation
Hajjaj told us, from Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq; and Isma'il ibn Umar told us: Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq told us, from Abu Ishaq, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: An eye ailment afflicted me, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, visited me. He said: When I recovered, I went out, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: What do you think — if your eyes were afflicted with what they were afflicted with, what would you have done? I said: If my eyes had been afflicted with what they were afflicted with, I would have shown patience and sought reward. He said: If your eyes had been afflicted with what they were afflicted with, and then you had shown patience and sought reward, you would surely meet Allah, Mighty and Majestic, with no sin upon you. Isma'il said: Then you had shown patience and sought reward, Allah, Exalted is He, would surely have made Paradise obligatory for you.
