حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَجْلَحَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ بِالْيَمَنِ فَأُتِيَ بِامْرَأَةٍ وَطِئَهَا ثَلَاثَةُ نَفَرٍ فِي طُهْرٍ وَاحِدٍ فَسَأَلَ اثْنَيْنِ أَتُقِرَّانِ لِهَذَا بِالْوَلَدِ فَلَمْ يُقِرَّا ثُمَّ سَأَلَ اثْنَيْنِ أَتُقِرَّانِ لِهَذَا بِالْوَلَدِ فَلَمْ يُقِرَّا ثُمَّ سَأَلَ اثْنَيْنِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ يَسْأَلُ اثْنَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ فَلَمْ يُقِرُّوا ثُمَّ أَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَلْزَمَ الْوَلَدَ الَّذِي خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْقُرْعَةُ وَجَعَلَ عَلَيْهِ ثُلُثَيْ الدِّيَةِ فَرُفِعَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَضَحِكَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ.
English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq told us: Sufyan told us, from Ajlah, from al-Sha'bi, from Abd Khayr al-Hadrami, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, was in Yemen, and a woman was brought to him who had been had intercourse with by three men within a single period of purity. He asked two of them: Do you both admit the child belongs to this one? They did not admit it. Then he asked another two: Do you both admit the child belongs to this one? They did not admit it. Then he asked the remaining two, going through them two by two about each one, and they did not admit it. Then he cast lots among them and assigned the child to the one upon whom the lot fell, and imposed upon him two-thirds of the blood-money. That was raised to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he laughed until his molar teeth showed.
