حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمِنْهَالِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ وَزَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ عَنْ الصَّرْفِ فَهَذَا يَقُولُ سَلْ هَذَا فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي وَأَعْلَمُ وَهَذَا يَقُولُ سَلْ هَذَا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي وَأَعْلَمُ قَالَ فَسَأَلْتُهُمَا فَكِلَاهُمَا يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَرِقِ بِالذَّهَبِ دَيْنًا وَسَأَلْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَرِقِ بِالذَّهَبِ دَيْنًا.
English Translation
Affan told us: Shu'bah told us: Habib ibn Abi Thabit informed me, who said: I heard Abu al-Minhal say: I asked al-Bara' ibn Azib and Zayd ibn Arqam about currency exchange, and this one would say, Ask that one, for he is better than me and more knowledgeable, and that one would say, Ask this one, for he is better than me and more knowledgeable. He said: So I asked them both, and both of them said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade selling silver for gold on credit. And I asked this one, and he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade selling silver for gold on credit.
