حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ زَاذَانَ عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَجَلِيِّ أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ فَدَخَلَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُهُ الْإِسْلَامَ وَهُوَ فِي مَسِيرِهِ فَدَخَلَ خُفُّ بَعِيرِهِ فِي جُحْرِ يَرْبُوعٍ فَوَقَصَهُ بَعِيرُهُ فَمَاتَ فَأَتَى عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ عَمِلَ قَلِيلًا وَأُجِرَ كَثِيرًا قَالَهَا حَمَّادٌ ثَلَاثًا اللَّحْدُ لَنَا وَالشَّقُّ لِغَيْرِنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ الْبَجَلِيُّ عَنْ زَاذَانَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
English Translation
Affan told us: Hammad ibn Salama told us, from al-Hajjaj, from Amr ibn Murra, from Zadhan, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali: that a man came and entered Islam, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was teaching him Islam while he was on a journey. Then his camel's foot went into a jerboa's burrow and it threw him down, and he died. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to him and said, "He did little but was rewarded much." Hammad said three times: "The niche grave is for us, and the trench grave is for others besides us." Affan told us: Abd al-Wahid told us: Hajjaj ibn Artat told us: Uthman al-Bajali told us, from Zadhan, and he mentioned the hadith.
