حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَزْهَرَ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزَاةَ الْفَتْحِ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ يَتَخَلَّلُ النَّاسَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ مَنْزِلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ فَأُتِيَ بِشَارِبٍ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَضَرَبُوهُ بِمَا فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِنَعْلِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِعَصًا وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِسَوْطٍ وَحَثَا عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التُّرَابَ.
English Translation
'Uthman ibn 'Umar told us: Usamah ibn Zayd told us, from al-Zuhri, that he heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Azhar say: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during the campaign of the Conquest, while I was a young boy, making his way through the people, asking about the location of Khalid ibn al-Walid's tent. Then a wine-drinker was brought, and he gave an order concerning him, so they struck him with whatever was in their hands - some struck him with a sandal, some struck him with a stick, and some struck him with a whip - and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) threw dust over him.
