English Translation
Muhammad b. Ja'far told us - he was asked about a man who is greeted with the salaam while he is not in a state of ritual purity, and he said: Sa'id told us from Qatada from al-Hasan from al-Hudayn Abu Sasan from al-Muhajir b. Qunfudh, that he greeted the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with the salaam while he was performing ablution, and he did not return the greeting until he had finished the ablution, then he returned it, and said: "Nothing prevented me from returning your greeting except that I disliked to mention Allah except in a state of purity." He said: Because of this hadith, al-Hasan used to dislike reciting [the Qur'an] or mentioning Allah, Mighty and Majestic, until he had purified himself.
